Easter Egg Hunt 2012

Our Easter morning egg hunt was done inside of course!  Much too cold to be done outside!  (I did hear someone joke that they were going to leave their eggs white to make the egg hunt extra hard this year.  Haha!)

The boys dressed for church.  (Notice how our snow pile is smaller than it was in previous pictures.  The day before we had a snowfall that broke the all-time snowfall record, but the month prior to this had no snowfall and was sunny.  Even with temps still below freezing the snow had been slowly melting away.)

They were getting pretty cold by the time I took this one.

Dying Easter Eggs

We dyed Easter eggs the day before Easter, but before we dyed the eggs we played in the snow.  What!? Yes, we played in the snow because that is what you do in Alaska at Easter time!  Oh, and you are looking at the snowfall that finally broke the all-time snowfall record for Anchorage!  This snow brought the total up to 134.5 inches or a little more than 11 feet!  The previous record was set in the winter of 1954-1955.

Anchorage Museum

William had to visit a place of interest in the Anchorage area for a school project.  We decided to go to the Anchorage Museum since it is a place we had been wanting to visit, but hadn't yet.  It reminds me of the Science Museum in Oklahoma City, only this one was much smaller than the one in OKC.

Snow Fun in Seward!

We spent a few nights in Seward, which was of course covered in lots of snow.  So what were we to do but play in it!

Snowball fight!

Someone may have been hit in the face

Ben took cover at the top of a large pile of snow

We decided to explore the resort grounds

We made some Ghostbuster's Proton Packs and went ghost hunting

Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward

Grammy and Grandpa came up for spring break.  Yay!  We took a trip to Seward, AK to check out the Military Resort and some local attractions.  One of the places we went was the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Eli loved the "ish"

The touch pool was lots of fun!  Some of the things in there didn't feel like we expected them to feel!

This little guy was so fun! He was following our hands all over the glass!

The view from the center.  Beautiful!

Iditarod 2012!

This is our second year to go out to the official start of the Iditarod race. I love it! Going out to the race takes a bit of work, but it isn't something that everyone has a chance to do so it is worth it.

All three boys getting ready to go to the race.

I wonder how long he will go before putting on gloves.  It was cold out there!

Cold breath!

They were more interested in playing in the snow

You can see some of the frozen lake the race starts on in this picture.  It is so think that race watchers build fires on top of it!

Fur Rondy 2012

Fur Rendezvous 2012!  So last year we went down to the Fur Rondy and watched the Running of the Reindeer.  Then we attempted to ride the rides, but were very disappointingly unsuccessful.  You have to buy tickets to ride the rides and they only take cash.  Unfortunately, BOTH of the ATMs next to the ticket booth were out of order (I wonder how much business they lost because of this?!).  The boys were so sad!  So this year we made sure to have cash and braved some very cold temps to ride these rides.  I was pretty sure I was nearing frostbite status as we were leaving!

You may recognize these rides from the Bear Paw Festival.  HA!  The slide is still their favorite.  We thought Will was going to take that little boy out, but he hopped out of the way just in time.

Will was brave and rode this one all by himself so that James could take Ben to ride something else.

James did not like this one as much as the boys!  They were really squishing him.
