Memorial Day 2012 - Mirror Lake

We went out to Mirror Lake to celebrate Memorial Day.  The lake really is a mirror when the wind is calm.  We played on the swings, cooked out, fished a little and took a short walk in the woods.  Pretty good day!

Eklutna Lake

This is Eklutna Lake.  Just beautiful!  The water runs off from a glacier and it is also Anchorage's water source.  (No wonder the water coming out of the tap is so cold!)

There were lots of little streams and puddles on the shore.  It made the area very muddy!  Unfortunately, the dirt is glacial silt and very fine.  That made it very slippery!  Eli hated it, and I ended up taking him up tot he dry areas while the big boys stayed near the water.

Elijah's First Haircut

Eli finally got his first haircut, just a few days before his second birthday.  I searched and searched for a place with a fun chair for him to sit in.  Will and Ben both went to cute places for their first haircuts, so I wanted to find the same for Eli.  This place was just perfect!  I love the airplane!

Ben's 5th Birthday!

Ben had a great birthday!  He absolutely loved everything he got!  There was even a field trip to the post office at pre-school!

Easter Egg Hunt 2012

Our Easter morning egg hunt was done inside of course!  Much too cold to be done outside!  (I did hear someone joke that they were going to leave their eggs white to make the egg hunt extra hard this year.  Haha!)

The boys dressed for church.  (Notice how our snow pile is smaller than it was in previous pictures.  The day before we had a snowfall that broke the all-time snowfall record, but the month prior to this had no snowfall and was sunny.  Even with temps still below freezing the snow had been slowly melting away.)

They were getting pretty cold by the time I took this one.

Dying Easter Eggs

We dyed Easter eggs the day before Easter, but before we dyed the eggs we played in the snow.  What!? Yes, we played in the snow because that is what you do in Alaska at Easter time!  Oh, and you are looking at the snowfall that finally broke the all-time snowfall record for Anchorage!  This snow brought the total up to 134.5 inches or a little more than 11 feet!  The previous record was set in the winter of 1954-1955.

Anchorage Museum

William had to visit a place of interest in the Anchorage area for a school project.  We decided to go to the Anchorage Museum since it is a place we had been wanting to visit, but hadn't yet.  It reminds me of the Science Museum in Oklahoma City, only this one was much smaller than the one in OKC.

Snow Fun in Seward!

We spent a few nights in Seward, which was of course covered in lots of snow.  So what were we to do but play in it!

Snowball fight!

Someone may have been hit in the face

Ben took cover at the top of a large pile of snow

Grandpa in the fight

We decided to explore the resort grounds

We made some Ghostbuster's Proton Packs and went ghost hunting
