Hiking in Arctic Valley

Although it looks like we hiked up pretty high, we really didn't.  You don't have to go very far to get an incredible view in Arctic Valley.  The last time we came our hike was cut short when we decided to pick berries instead of going up the trail.  I'm so glad we returned!

Whittier Tunnel

So, I started a post and forgot to post it but I thought this was too fun not to put up on the blog.  When my parents were here last summer, we drove out to the town of Whittier.  In order to get to Whittier you have to drive through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel.  This tunnel is the longest combined rail and highway tunnel in North America.  The tunnel is very narrow and so traffic is only allowed to go one way.  Traffic only comes into Whittier on the half hour and out on the hour.  The train runs between those times.

First Snow of the Season

September 29th!  Seems way too early for the snow to start, but it was not the record for earliest snowfall!  Luckily it didn't last more than about an hour before it melted away.

Denali Tour Courtesy of the 962

I was so lucky to get to ride on a spouses flight!  I have been inside the AWACS a few times at air shows, but never when it was flying before.  It was really cool to see Denali from the air and to see all the computers in the back and how they work when turned on.

Fall Festival

We headed out to the Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm Fall Festival for the second year in a row.  It is the only fall festival/pumpkin patch to be found in the area, but luckily they put on a pretty good one!  The kids love it!  On the way there we saw the brightest rainbow I have ever seen!  I pulled over to take some pictures.  (Along with several other cars)  It was super windy and I decided to make the kids stay in the car.  I'm so glad I did because the wind was so strong I almost got blown off the old (no longer in use) bridge that I walked out on!

Ben Learns to Ride a Bike!

We had to bribe Ben with money to get him to try and learn how to ride his bike, but it took him all of about 5 minutes to get the hang of it!  We know he was ready.  He just needed a little motivation to get over his fear of doing it.
